Fly Ash Bricks

Bricks pressed from fly ash, cement, sand and water, used in India as a substitute for red clay bricks.

What is Fly Ash Bricks?

Fly ash bricks are an alternative to traditional red clay bricks in India. They are made by compressing a mixture of fly ash (waste from thermal power plants), cement, sand and water. They have a uniform shape and high compressive strength, and they reduce the topsoil excavation that clay brick-making needs.

Practical example

To earn an IGBC Green Building certification, a developer requires fly ash bricks for all masonry work. Because the bricks have a uniform size, jointing and plastering need 20% less cement mortar than with irregular red bricks, which lowers project costs.

In SuperWise

In SuperWise a brick resource can carry a quality checklist, which is attached to each material delivery challan. The checklist can hold number fields for readings such as compressive strength and water absorption. The challan takes a quality status of satisfactory, rejected, or unsatisfactory but accepted, and only an accepted challan can go into a purchase bill, so a rejected batch is not billed.
