What is Plastering?

Plastering is the finishing work in which a workable mix of cement, sand and water (mortar) is applied over rough brickwork or concrete. It gives a smooth, flat surface ready for painting and forms a protective layer against weathering and moisture.

Practical example

After the bricklayer finishes the exterior walls, the plastering contractor applies a two-coat sand-faced plaster. The first coat fills the deep brick joints. The second coat is finished with a wooden float to give a rough texture that bonds well with exterior weatherproof paint.

In SuperWise

Plastering is paid by area. In SuperWise each wall becomes a line on the measurement sheet for its BOQ item, with a deduction for openings and a computed net quantity. The BOQ item can also carry a rate analysis that lists cement, sand and labour, each with a wastage percentage.
