What is Material Delivery Challan (MDC / GRN)?

A Material Delivery Challan (MDC), also called a Goods Receipt Note (GRN), is the record that proves a supplier delivered material to site. When a supplier's truck arrives, the storekeeper checks the quantity and quality against the Purchase Order and creates the MDC, which adds the accepted goods to the site's inventory.

Practical example

A supplier delivers 500 bags of cement, but 10 bags burst in transit. The storekeeper signs the driver's waybill with a note of the damage and raises an MDC for only the 490 accepted bags. The accounts team pays the supplier for those 490 bags.

In SuperWise

In SuperWise a material delivery challan is recorded against a purchase order line. It carries the supplier's challan number, vehicle details, photos of the loaded vehicle, the empty vehicle and the material, and a QC status of satisfactory, rejected or unsatisfactory but accepted. Bill inward lists only approved challans, so an unapproved delivery cannot be billed.
