What is Brickwork (Chinai)?

Brickwork, called chinai on many North Indian sites, is the masonry process of laying bricks in a regular interlocking pattern, bound together by cement-sand mortar, to form load-bearing or partition walls.

Practical example

A masonry subcontractor is hired to build half-brick chinai, 4.5-inch partition walls, for the interior rooms of an office building. The contractor bills the client by the total sq.m of wall built, with the area of doors and windows left open deducted.

In SuperWise

In SuperWise, brickwork is a BOQ item measured in sq.m or cu.m. A measurement sheet records each wall as number, length, breadth and height, with a deduction for openings such as doors and windows, and computes the net quantity. Approving the sheet updates progress on the BOQ item. Bricks, cement and sand are resources that can carry a minimum stock level.
