What is Transit Mixer (TM)?
A Transit Mixer (TM) is a truck with a rotating cylindrical drum that carries ready-mix concrete from the batching plant to the site. Spiral blades inside the drum keep the concrete agitated, and the drum turns slowly throughout the trip through city traffic. This stops the cement, sand and water from segregating and the mix from hardening before it is discharged.
Practical example
A batching plant is 10 km from the site. The plant operator loads 6 cu.m of fresh M40 concrete into a transit mixer and, because traffic will slow the trip, adds a retarding admixture to delay the setting time. The drum turns at 2 RPM all the way to the site, and the concrete is still plastic when the boom pump draws it out.
In SuperWise
In SuperWise a ready-mix delivery is recorded on a material delivery challan (MDC) against a purchase order line. The challan holds the supplier's challan number, the vehicle registration and the driver, photos of the loaded vehicle, the empty vehicle and the material, and a QC status. It then goes for approval.
