Concrete Slump Test
A site test of fresh concrete that measures how far a moulded cone of it settles, showing its workability and consistency.
What is Concrete Slump Test?
The concrete slump test is a quick quality control check on fresh concrete, done on site before the pour. The tester fills a conical metal mould with concrete, lifts the cone away and measures how far the concrete slumps. A higher slump means a wetter, more fluid mix.
Practical example
A transit mixer arrives to supply a heavily reinforced column pour. The QA/QC engineer runs a slump test. The required slump is 120 mm but the concrete slumps only 60 mm, so it is too dry and stiff. The engineer rejects the batch, because stiff concrete in dense column rebar would cause honeycombing.
In SuperWise
In SuperWise a slump test can be a checklist with a number field for the slump in mm, a photo and a signature, and the form can go through approval. A resource such as ready-mix concrete can carry a quality checklist for delivery, and the delivery challan records a QC status of satisfactory, rejected or unsatisfactory but accepted.
