What is I-Beam (RSJ)?

An I-Beam, also called a Rolled Steel Joist (RSJ), is a structural steel beam whose cross-section is shaped like the letter I, with a central web joining two horizontal flanges. The shape carries bending and shear loads without buckling, which makes the I-beam the main member of steel-framed buildings.

Practical example

For an industrial warehouse span, a contractor uses heavy structural steel I-beams for the primary roof trusses. The top and bottom flanges resist the bending moments from the roof load, while the thinner vertical web resists shear and passes the weight to the steel columns.

In SuperWise

Structural steel is typically sold by weight, and a resource can take MT as its unit. In SuperWise the storekeeper records each delivery as a material delivery challan against the PO line, with the supplier's challan number and the vehicle registration. Deliveries cannot pass the maximum quantity on the PO line, apart from the permissible variation set on the resource.
