Underground Sump (UG Sump)
A buried concrete tank that stores municipal water at ground or basement level before pumps lift it to the overhead tanks.
What is Underground Sump (UG Sump)?
An Underground Sump (UG Sump) is a large concrete water tank, heavily reinforced and waterproofed, buried below the basement or ground level of a building. Municipal supply in Indian cities often arrives through intermittent gravity lines, so the sump collects the water. Booster pumps then lift it to the overhead tanks (OHT) on the terrace.
Practical example
The municipal corporation supplies water for only 2 hours every morning. To give a 500-apartment society water 24/7, the contractor builds an underground sump of 2,00,000 litres. It fills by gravity during those 2 hours, and for the rest of the day electric pumps draw from it to keep the terrace tanks full.
In SuperWise
In SuperWise the sump's water-tightness test, filling the tank and recording the water level over 7 days, can be built as a checklist with number, photo and signature fields. Set as the finish checklist of the sump task, with the checklist enforced, it must be approved before the task can be marked complete.
