Strip Foundation (Continuous Footing)
A continuous shallow footing laid along a load-bearing wall to spread its load evenly over the soil.
What is Strip Foundation (Continuous Footing)?
A strip foundation, or continuous footing, is a shallow foundation common in low-rise building. Instead of separate pads under individual columns, it is a continuous, level trench along the whole length of a load-bearing wall, filled with reinforced concrete that spreads the wall's weight evenly over the soil.
Practical example
For a traditional two-storey rural school built with load-bearing brick walls and no RCC columns, the contractor excavates a continuous 1 m wide trench under every wall. A continuous strip of concrete is poured into the trench, and the brick walls are built directly on top of it.
In SuperWise
A strip foundation is billed by volume. In SuperWise, the measurement sheet for its BOQ item records the length, breadth and height of each section, with a deduction where needed, and computes the net quantity. Approving the sheet updates BOQ progress, and the cumulative billed quantity cannot pass the work order quantity.
