What is JCB (Backhoe Loader)?

A JCB is a backhoe loader, a tractor-based machine with a loader bucket at the front and a digging arm at the rear. J.C. Bamford is a British manufacturer, but in India the brand name has become the everyday word for the machine. It is among the most common machines on Indian sites, digging trenches with the rear arm and moving sand or debris with the front bucket.

Practical example

Before foundation work begins, the site engineer calls in a JCB for two days. On day one, the operator uses the rear backhoe to dig the 1.5 m deep trenches for the strip foundation. On day two, the operator swivels the seat around and uses the front bucket to load the excavated soil into waiting dump trucks.

In SuperWise

SuperWise records machinery as a resource, separate from material and labour. A hired JCB goes on an equipment rental challan against a purchase order line, with the rental period and the number of units. A company-owned machine gets a daily equipment log with the hours it worked and a note on the work done.
