Occupancy Certificate (OC)
The municipal certificate that confirms a building matches its approved plans and may legally be occupied.
What is Occupancy Certificate (OC)?
An Occupancy Certificate (OC), called a Completion Certificate (CC) by some municipalities, is the final municipal clearance for a finished building. City engineers inspect the building and issue the OC if it complies with the approved structural plans, fire safety norms and rainwater harvesting rules. Buyers cannot legally move in without it, and banks will not make final loan disbursements.
Practical example
A developer finishes a luxury apartment complex and buyers want to move in to save rent. The municipal corporation refuses to issue the OC because the developer has not built the mandated sewage treatment plant (STP). The buyers cannot legally occupy their flats until the developer builds the STP and secures the OC.
In SuperWise
SuperWise files the OC and its prerequisite approvals as project documents, with a purpose, a stage and a revision history. The schedule supports zero-duration milestones, shown as diamonds in the Gantt, so OC received can sit on the programme as a milestone after the final tasks.
