Notice Inviting Tender (NIT)
The public or private notice in which a client invites competitive bids, setting out scope, eligibility, EMD and deadlines.
What is Notice Inviting Tender (NIT)?
A Notice Inviting Tender (NIT) is the formal notice that opens the procurement process. Published in newspapers for government work or on private portals, it states the client's intention to build a project, the scope of work, the eligibility criteria, the Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) and the deadlines for contractors to submit their technical and financial bids.
Practical example
The metro railway corporation publishes an NIT in a national newspaper for a metro station on a viaduct. The NIT states that only contractors with an annual turnover above ₹500 crore and past experience building railway infrastructure may buy the tender documents and submit a bid.
In SuperWise
SuperWise handles a works tender as an RFP. The RFP lists the BOQ items in scope with quantities, bid terms and a submission deadline, and carries drawings and specifications as attachments. Publishing it puts it on the contractor portal, where invited contractors reach it with an access code and submit proposals, and a comparison view lines up their rates item by item.
