Hardcore Soling
A layer of large angular stones packed over compacted earth to give floor slabs and pavements a firm sub-base.
What is Hardcore Soling?
Hardcore soling, or simply soling, is a sub-base layer of large angular stones, usually 150 mm to 230 mm in size, packed tightly over compacted earth before a ground floor slab (PCC) or a pavement is laid. It spreads loads and gives a firm, non-yielding base.
Practical example
Before casting the concrete floor of a warehouse, the contractor lays a 200 mm layer of stone soling over the excavated soil. The stones are hand-packed tightly, the gaps are filled with smaller stone dust (murrum), and a heavy roller compacts the layer so the floor does not crack under forklift traffic.
In SuperWise
SuperWise tracks soling as its own BOQ item, measured in sq.m or cu.m. The engineer records the measured area or volume in a measurement sheet against that item and the work order. The approved quantity feeds the RA bill raised for the earthwork contractor, and the cumulative billed quantity cannot pass the work order quantity.
