What is Kickers (Concrete Starter)?

A concrete kicker, also called a starter, is a short concrete upstand, typically 50 mm to 100 mm high, cast at the footprint of a column or wall directly above the foundation or slab. The column shuttering is clamped against it, so the kicker sets the alignment of the formwork.

Practical example

The survey team marks out the coordinates of 50 basement columns. Before the carpenters erect the 3 m tall column formwork, the concrete crew casts a 75 mm kicker at each column. The next day the carpenters fix their formwork tightly around the kickers, which keeps each column from shifting out of plumb during a heavy pour.

In SuperWise

In SuperWise a checklist can be attached to a schedule task as a start or finish check. A team can build a pre-pour checklist with number and yes-or-no fields for the kicker dimensions and alignment, plus a photo and a signature. With enforcement on, the task cannot be marked complete until the filled checklist is approved.
