Lintel Band

A continuous reinforced concrete ring through the walls at door-top level that ties masonry together against earthquake shaking.

What is Lintel Band?

A Lintel Band is an unbroken ring of reinforced concrete that runs horizontally through all the bearing walls at door-top level. In earthquake-prone zones of India it is required to tie the walls together and prevent collapse in seismic shaking. A lintel, by contrast, is a beam over a single opening such as a door, window or ventilator, carrying the brickwork above.

Practical example

When building a brick house in a high-risk earthquake zone (Zone IV in India), the structural engineer specifies a 150 mm thick continuous RCC lintel band at a height of 7 feet across every wall. The band ties the whole perimeter masonry together like a belt, instead of working only above the doors.

In SuperWise

A lintel casting step can be a task in a SuperWise schedule template, placed between the masonry tasks through predecessors, with a finish checklist. With the checklist enforced, the task cannot be marked complete until a filled checklist is approved. Checklist fields can hold a photo or a signature.
