What is Brass (Volumetric Measurement)?

A brass is a traditional, non-metric Indian unit of volume for loose bulk materials such as sand, crushed stone aggregate and excavated earth. One brass equals 100 cubic feet (10 ft x 10 ft x 1 ft), about 2.83 cu.m.

Practical example

A building contractor orders river sand for brickwork. The supplier delivers it in a standard six-wheel dump truck. The site supervisor measures the inside of the truck's cargo box, works out 300 cubic feet, and logs the receipt in the stock register as 3 brass of sand.

In SuperWise

In SuperWise a resource can use CuBrass or SqBrass as its unit, alongside cum, cuft and MT. A material delivery challan records length, breadth and height and computes the delivered quantity from them, which suits a truck-load of sand measured by its box. The challan is raised against a PO line and carries a QC status.
