What is Quantity Surveyor (QS)?

A Quantity Surveyor (QS) is the cost professional of a construction project. The QS takes measurements off the drawings to build the Bill of Quantities (BOQ), then measures progress on site during execution and audits the contractor's RA bills so the client pays only for work done.

Practical example

Before tendering, the QS calculates that the project needs 12,450 cubic metres of concrete. Eight months into construction, the contractor bills for 13,000 cubic metres. The QS checks the Measurement Book, finds that the contractor over-measured and cuts the invoice back to the measured volume.

In SuperWise

A QS in SuperWise works from the project BOQ and records measurements on measurement sheets against each BOQ item and work order, with deductions and a computed net quantity. RA bill lines take their quantities from those sheets, and the cumulative billed quantity of a line cannot pass the quantity on the work order.
