## What is Ready Mix Concrete (RMC)?

Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) is concrete made to an exact design mix in an off-site, computer-controlled batching plant and delivered to the site in a plastic, unhardened state by [transit mixer](https://superwise.site/glossary/transit-mixer/). It replaces mixing cement, sand and aggregate by hand on site, which gives poor [quality control](https://superwise.site/glossary/quality-assurance-quality-control/) and takes up space.

## Practical example

A contractor is building an urban skyscraper with no room to store sand or cement at ground level. For the 5th-floor slab, they order 100 cubic metres of M40 grade RMC. A convoy of transit mixers arrives on schedule, and a concrete boom pump lifts the concrete straight to the 5th floor, so no raw material is stored on site.
